KMT Hepatech, Inc. provides unique in vivo research services utilizing proprietary platform technology of small animal model, the KMT Mouse. The KMT Mouse is a chimeric mouse model with humanized liver with up to 95% of stable human hepatocyte engraftment. Human hepatocytes repopulate the mouse liver in an organized fashion and retain long term normal pharmacological responses. Human hepatocytes in the mouse liver are functional and secrete a variety of hepatic proteins like albumin, α-1 antitrypsin, apolipoprotein A, apolipoprotein E and several clotting factors and complement proteins. Upon engraftment, the KMT Mouse can be successfully infected with hepatotropic infections (hepatitis C, hepatitis B or malaria) and remain infected over an extended period of time. This is widely used for hepatitis C (HCV) and hepatitis B (HBV) drug development. The non-infected KMT Mouse can be utilized to address early evaluation of human toxicity in hepatocytes and characterization of human metabolism. This application is beneficial for early safety assessments. The company is proud to acknowledge that generated in KMT Mouse drug therapy responses are predictive of those seen in humans during clinical trials. KMT Mouse platform technology is a cost effective animal model that contributes important advantages to research on Hepatitis C and other hepatotropic infections, as well as toxicity and drug metabolsm studies. KMT Hepatech, Inc. owns an international patent portfolio that includes coverage of the uPA chimeric mouse model of HCV infection and on the uPA chimeric mouse for all potential applications including HBV, malaria and studies of toxicity, drug and lipoprotein metabolism. The technology is available for out-licensing. KMT Hepatech is considering in-licensing (murine models). |
